About
People with diabetes are at risk of falling due to reduced nerve function in their feet, which can reduce their quality of life. Clinical assessments can only be performed intermittently, which motivates the design of a continuous gait monitoring system to assess fall risk for diabetic neuropathy patients. We develop a wearable system that passively measures the dynamics of the patient's lower extremities during walking, stair climbing, and other activities. This allows fall risk to be assessed without requiring the wearer to alter their lifestyle.
Continuous, wearable gait monitoring to assess patient fall risk during their daily activities
